Company History

Eiwa Trading Company was first established in 1952 by Daisaburo(Dai) Shima as a company specializing in the trade of industrial chemicals. At the time, Dai’s brother Toshiharu Shima worked at Japan Storage Battery Company as the technical director, where he was experiencing difficulties in obtaining materials for manufacturing batteries due to the aftermaths of World War II. However, Dai fared better and was able to gather the necessary materials such as barium salt, carbon, and natrium-lignosulfonate for producing lead-acid batteries. Because of this advantage, Eiwa Trading aided Japan Storage Battery in getting through the struggling times. Since then, the two companies have maintained a strong business relationship, which led to expanding clientele and development of Eiwa Trading as it is today.

In 1993, Kazumasa Shima joined Eiwa Trading, where he eventually succeeded his father Dai in becoming the next and current president of the company.

Kazumasa studied at Osaka University, where he majored in physics with a specific interest in mass spectrometry. Following graduation in 1971, he was hired by Hitachi Ltd. where he stayed for 22 years, dedicating himself to the research and production engineering of hard disk systems, data base management systems, and logic LSI systems.

When Kazumasa joined Eiwa Trading, the company was in the progress of developing new products such as the Ni-Cd battery, Ni-MH battery, and Lithium-ion battery. To this day, Eiwa Trading continues its efforts, with the cooperation of GS Yuasa Group, in trading as well as collaborating to develop new types of batteries.
